JR Dertinger was born and raised in the suburbs of Detroit. He currently resides in San Francisco, where he has lived for 20 years. JR’s defining characteristic is a love of learning. This trait has taken him down many roads and varied paths, resulting in a wide range of educational pursuits and work and life experiences. 

 

Part bohemian, part bourgeoisie, JR brings a unique perspective and unconventional style to his writing and one-liners. Although he fancies himself a poet and philosopher, JR is more like a stand-up comedian without a stage. One thing is for sure. If he’s qualified to teach anything, it’s how to laugh at one’s self. Over time, this capacity has helped JR perfect his smile. Now, through publication, his chief goal is to help others do the same. Smile, that is.
